We are dedicated to a fair, inclusive and transparent form of governance on campus. We believe that there has been a critical lack of transparency in the university's Covid-19 response in terms of both financial contingencies and safety concerns. While we understand that the pandemic poses unique challenges to the university, we are dedicated to the principle that we, as a university community working together in a transparent, democratic manner, can come up with solutions that are compassionate, respectful, and just, and that prioritize the core mission of the university: our teaching and our research. Our goal is to work in solidarity across our different positions to preserve our ability—stretched though it is—to carry out our responsibilities as a land-grant institution, as a newly designated Hispanic-Serving Institution, and as a major RI public flagship University residing on the traditional territory of the Tohono O’odham and Pascua Yaqui Nations.
